Where and How to Get Your Decking Materials
You've got your design down and you've found the help that you need to get your deck built. Now it's time to figure out where to get the materials to use for your project within the budget you have set. We touched briefly on the different types of materials that can be used for building your deck, now I want to cover where you can get the materials you need in order to get your project done.
Locally
If you've hired someone to help you with your deck design and building project, most likely they know your budget and may have some recommendations for you. They will have connections to other businesses in your location that will carry what you need. Many chain home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, or Ace Hardware Supply may be in your area and will carry a good variety of products. The only problem that could occur with buying locally is if you are planning to use specialty materials, they may be hard to find. You will also need to keep in mind that you may need a vehicle to cart the materials home unless these local establishments have a delivery service. You can call around to see what they carry and what they cost and find out if they provide delivery and if it's included in the price.
Online
There are several online vendors who supply decking materials. If you're pretty clear on what materials you will need, you can always go to product websites and find dealers locally. For example, DreamDex dealers can be found here. Many online stores ship to your door and depending on where you live there may not be sales tax. This route can be good if you don't have vehicle to haul materials back to your home. Many times you can find reviews that can arm you with good information about buying online or how customers liked the product. The benefit of using these services is that you may be able to find products that you can't locally without having to order them or wait for them to be in stock. Beware of shipping times so that you can order what you need and get it on time.
Just when you thought you were ready top start building! This is an important step for your deck project. You want to be sure everything is in place with your budget, timeline and materials to be able to get it done right. Take your time with your research, it will serve you well in the end.
